We've been hearing about murmurs of a recession since late last year, does anyone with student level knowledge know what the low down is?

People (doom mongers) have been overreacting to events ans the media has peddled a degree of economic illiteracy.

Weak global demand has led to slower trade growth and low commodity prices, this has led to a slowdown in China which has caused the markets to overreact and stock markets to enter a bear market.

The UK economy has cooled but PMI numbers remain solid in the service sector and growth of round about 2% is still expected.

    Basically, it's not coming.

No one anticipated the 2007/08 recession

Indeed, but the doom mongers predicting recession now have predicted one every year. Point being, their opinion is no more valid than mine.
