I started my course in September 2014. I am currently on 4 year BSc degree programme, due to go on my year abroad (to Egypt) this september.

I am really confused about the funding though. I am intending to take out a Tuition Loan. However, I am unsure of the amount of grant or loan I would reveive.

A few days ago, I called Student Finance regarding this, and the representative informed me that I would receive a Maintenance Loan AND Maintenance Grant. The line cut off however, so I proceeded to call again. To my surprise, I spoke to another representative who informed me that only the loan (of about £3000) would be available for the year abroad. I told her of my previous encounter with her collegue, and she informed me that the previous representive was looking at 'overseas' as opposed to ´year abroad'.

I am not sure what to believe anymore. I need to start planning my budget for September, however £3000 for an entire year to cover rent, bills, travel and everything (except tuition fees) seems very little. Also, as it is means-tested, I have always received the maximum amout of help so I was shocked when I was told this amount. In addition, I was always told that for my year abroad, I'd receive more money to help with the extra expenses. However, this amount is considerably low to what I already receive. I am aware of the Travel Grant and I have applied for a Hardship Grant at my university.

Could you please shed some light on whether I'd be able to attain some additional funding for my year abroad? I am quiete anxious, and I am aware that you will not be able to give exact figures

    Thank you!

Do you agree with the PM's proposal to cut tuition fees for some courses?
