Different organisms are dependent on other ones. Therefore, if biodivierstiy decreases, food chains and webs will fall apart. By not having a certain species of plant, for example, a specific herbivore in the next trophic level, could be affected and could decrease in number. This means less food for the carnivore above, so basically loads of organisms die.
