    Hi there,

    Hope you're all well!

I will be starting university in September, however need some classification. As I will be living at home, and won't have to pay rent, do I need the maintanence loan? If so, what exactly for?

    Thanks for the help👍

You don't *have* to take it but I assume you will want some money to live on - for food/travel/social stuff.

Some courses can be quite expensive, depending on what you're studying. If you don't take the loan, what would you be living on?

You'll need to get to and from uni - bus fare, train fare, car/parking costs. Course costs (books, equipment, stationery etc). Presumably you might need replacement clothes and shoes at some point in the next three years. Socialising - even if you don't drink, you might still want to go out with friends. Society subs and activities.

Have you checked with your parents, that they don't want some sort of contribution to rent/mortgage, food and bills? Even if they don't ask for it, it would be nice if you volunteered to make some sort of contrbution to the household.
