I listen to music that I love, and either try not to think about what's bothering me, or try to put things into perspective

I interact with my pets. They remind me that there's something to live for and they keep me going

Just wait until the feel passes.
Normally takes 1-2 weeks and I just don't have that much time to spare

Well at least you know it will be over in 1-2 weeks. That should help you be able to do things, as you know the feeling will go.

I recall a verse from the Salla Sutta.

"Seeking your own happiness, you should pull out your own arrow, your own lamentation, longing and sorrow. With the arrow pulled out, independent, all grief transcended, griefless you are unbound."

In other words, when life gets you down, stick your middle finger up at it and keep on going towards your goal. When you learn to overcome grievances, you'll never be restricted again by emotional barriers.
