Honestly guys. Stop stressing about which halls your going to be 'stuck' with. Firstly, you can't do anything about it anymores. Secondly you ARE going to have a great time in halls. Us Re-apps make sure of that.

Pembridge is a great halls with a great atmosphere. Due to the large numbers of people using each kitchen it is VERY sociable. Both the house 28 kitchen and the games room tend to become social areas, which kind of divide you into two groups, the house 28 kitcheners and the house 32 kitcheners.

Also the halls is one of the smallest in Imperial, which means most people know each other. Pembridge also has one of the highest aminities funds which adds to your rent, but also adds to the alcohol that is present at parties.

Just be aware that because its quite small, things go missing very quickly in Pembridge. Do NOT bring expensive cookwares to Pembridge.

I was saying why things would get lost easily due to the hall's small size.

Things won't get lost unless someone go and steal it right?

But why would a hall being small makes it easier for thieves to operate?

Because probability of having an item stolen is proportional to the volume the item is encased in.

I'm gonna complain if i don't get a ******* en-suite.

it is proportional to the concentration of thieves in the room, which in turn is inversely proportional to the floor area.

What is the real reason? Or was he meaning that if the room is small, things have to be placed close together and they may get on top of each other such that those items go missing?!

This depends on both the number of thieves and their mood. Mood/happyness is proportional to open space. The better the thieve's mood is, the less likely he will steel something. So, chance of stealing something is inversely proportional to floor area.

Concentration can still be high with a large floor area if ratio of number of thieves to floor area is still directly proportional. Hence number of thieves is still porportional to floor area. Which in turn, means that there should be a lesser probabilty of getting item stolen, so chance of stealing something is proportional to floor area.

?? lol. Oh Crap, that just contradicts everythin...

Can you be serious?! Why is it that small room leads to more things missing? I really want to know.

Smaller area = things packed closer together.
Things packed closer together = maybe two or three peoples items in the same cupboard
Two or three peoples items in the same cupboard = greater access for a larger number of people to your stuff
Greater access for a larger no of people to your stuff = more likely to get stolen.

lol i love this thread
(Only read the first page of this thread but I dont think the question has been answerd)

I rember reading this somewhere can't rember where or when (so perhaps not the best person but someone may back me up). I think Pembridge have more expencive single (not ensuits) with showers and no tiolets whereas the ensuits in Pembridge have showers, tolilets and more.

How much would it cost travelling back and forth from imperial on the tube/bus per week roughly from Pembridge, just wondering if I'd be better off paying a bit more for one of the closer ones to save on travelling costs.

lots of interesting stuff in this thread:smile: pembridge is my first choice and by the sounds of of the posts here i made a good choice except the stealing part...is it really that bad? and how much is public transport in general in london? sorry, im not from the uk and i really dont have a clue...thanks:smile:

It's not that expensive, certainly compared to trying to get around by car. The problem is the crap service, so it's borderline value for money. Thank god for the oyster card...

I would say that the London transport is really top-notch when compare to many many major world cities. The Underground is really frequent and has really good coverage.

I do find the Piccadilly Line a bit unappealing though. It was built 100 years ago, deep level, such that all the dust cannot escape as the air inside cannot circulate with the outdoor air. For the times I use Piccadilly I would come out with my nostril full of black-dust... :p:

I prefer the tube to the bus anytime, but I'm still not a fan of either. Failing that, you could just take up cycling and be the enemy of everyone in London. The choice is yours...
