Nope. Well there are some college libraries that are, but mine isn't, neither is my faculty library or the university library. My college one is open 9am - midnight in Michaelmas and Lent term and then 8am - 2am during Easter term when everyone goes mental over their exams. I don't see the point in a 24 hour library- people shouldn't be encouraged to work crazy hours like that.

Ours opens 24 hours in exam periods...and now we got a new one (Information Commons) that is open 24 hours throught the year - go Sheffield!!

Reply 4

Ours is open 24 hours, yup. Love 3am-5am library sessions!

Reply 5

Ours is half open; you can't access the stacks, but you can study in parts of it that are open all night.

The library shuts at 12pm in terms 1 and 2. During summer term (3) it shuts at 2am. All year round though there is the 24hr learning grid but that is far more informal (you can eat, talk etc) and has only key books.

Nope, but the times are fairly good all the same.

Apparently happening in the next coupla years though, ie when I'm gone...

Reply 8

We have 3, 2 of which are open 24 hours term time - apart from Friday and Saturday night.

Reply 9

Yes--open 24 hours all year except during summer holidays (LSE).

Yes, but that's not 24 hour

24 hours computer rooms, but no libraries. Most in Cardiff Uni are open 8.45am-9/10pm Mon-Sat and 10-5 on Sun, which is much better than Bordeaux, which was 9am-5pm Mon-Fri for my école, and 9-9 Monday-Fri and 9-12 Sat, closed Sun in the Uni libraries.

No, but according to our student newspaper, it'll be undergoing a massive refurbishment over the summer and 24 hour opening might be one of the new features. At the moment, it's open from 8.30am-10pm Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm Saturday and 2pm-8pm Sunday.

I kind of agree with that, but I guess the people who are going to work all night wil do so regardless of where they do it, may as well give them all the resources they need.

Are the people who have 24hour libraries at campus based universities? It doesn't seem very practical, not to mention safe, to be travelling to and from a library in the early hours. Unless you go in a group, though that sounds even less practical.

No.

i go to art college. i doubt there'd be a demand for open access 24/7.
