Nope - think it's half 8 to 10pm monday to friday & 10-5 at weekends.

Uni's having a big campaign to get longer opening hours though.

Reply 21

Not 24 hours, but til 10pm at night. And the other university buildings are 24 hour.

Reply 22

Nope, and they're only open til 4:45pm on Fridays and at weekends!

How do libraries work in most unis? Do you have a few big ones? One big one? How are they organised? Do you have faculty/department ones? I'm so used to having one across the street in college (well, two technically, 3 if you count the law reading room), then two others down the road I can use, just wondered how it actually worked at other unis. There must be over 50 in cambridge, just wondered how many other unis have.

Have the main big library on the main campus & then a much smaller one on the second campus.

Plus a county council one in the town.

Yep and I have made full use of it!

The latest I have ever been in until is 2am, but I know of people that have been working from one morning to the next! Scary people are those.

We only have one library as we're a specialized college. But the University of London library is a 15 minute walk from LSE. We also can use KCL, UCL, SOAS, etc, all of which are within a 15 minute walk as well.

All the other UoL students come to LSE during holidays because we have longer opening hours...so hard to find a seat rrr

Still pretty damn good.

Well its still not 24hr. And its not good for people like me who's exams are after the "official" exam period.

Plus none of the other libraries open until 2am, only the main library which is fair enough but we still miss out on the late opening.

I kind of agree with that, but I guess the people who are going to work all night wil do so regardless of where they do it, may as well give them all the resources they need.

Its a waste of resources (i.e electricity and staff) - assuming it is manned by people and possibly security that late.

Up til 10pm is OK - students are given enough time to do assignments so its only their fault if they leave it too late (believe me i know (but had the sense to get the library books to work with at home))

At Exeter, we have the main library, the old library (not sure what they have there) the law library, a library on the St. Luke's campus and I'm not sure about the Cornwall campus, but I imagine they must have one there too.

For many people it is the services the library offers that are important as well as the study space, I don't know of any University library that offers those full services over a whole 24 hour period anyway. Although I do question why people need study spaces at stupid o'clock in the morning, it's hardly a good work ethic.

Mine is, but it closes saturday night till sunday morning for... some reason. They close it that night cause sunday nights before monday deadlines are pretty much their busiest times!

Reply 33

Nope, the number of times I've been in there at half nine when the 30 minute bell rings. Annoying.

Our computer rooms are 24hr all year. The libraries have really reduced opening hours over the holidays. Normal opening hours during term time (about 7-10 I think) and 24/7 during the exam periods. Theres not normally many/sometimes even any library staff in over night, there is a security guard though I think. They are all card access only and you can use your cards to issue items as well at the self service machines.

8.30-midnight in the week, reduced hours at weekends. There's talk of it becoming 24 hour though.Don't think I'd use it beyond reasonable hours anyway,I like my sleep and am quite organised when it comes to work.
