How do I find it , I have the value of D ( distance from grating to screen). On my information sheet it says d = 1/number of lines per metre.

Normally the question would say the grating is say "300 lines per millimeter", meaning you would do (1x10^-3)/300 to get the slit spacing, or solve for a in lambda = aX/D
