Were you rejected from Edinburgh?

okay, so, it looks like LOTS of people get rejected from Edinburgh..this makes me a little scared as it's growing on me more and more and more! (haven't visited it yet though) I want to do maths with comp. sci. and apparently I need ABC (A in maths) i got ABBB for my AS-levels, (A in maths) i don't know what im predicted yet, but are there any people out there that have applied to edinburgh to do maths? If so, did u get accepted? What were your predicted grades? etc...

I'm applying this year too for Maths, a bit scared.. hopefully these poll results aren't an accurate depiction.

As shopalotgrrl said, obviously Edinburgh has a really lopsided admissions process as from a Scottish school I think all you'd need to get for a maths-based degree is ABBB or AABB in your Highers, with an A in maths. I didn't apply for any Scottish unis in the end, as I had five As and for maths I would have been fine for any of them through clearing had I had to do that, bu the requirements from my side looked really low.

And St Andrews is really good for maths and Glasgow's good and has got a lovely department (great people) if you like Scotland but want an Edinburgh backup :smile:

I I genuinely think that Edinburgh does discriminate against non-Scots students, but thats their insular culture for you.

You were gutted? I was gutted! I am Scottish, the only difference is that i've been brought up in England, which is really really annoying.

Same situation here, except my Head of Sixth Form more or less suggested to me that the ONLY reason I got offers from Glasgow and Edinburgh was because I was born in Scotland. Which seems a bit unfair to me, since they do accept English students, and they do reject Scottish ones!

lol, that's a bit of an unfair comment from your teacher. At least you got an offer though! Is Edinburgh your first or second choice?
Edinburgh was my first choice and i really wanted to go there so i'm feeling a bit gutted atm

It's my first choice, and I'm really lucky to have the offer. I'm sorry you didn't get in though. I'm starting to think that most universities choose their applicants by picking them out of a hat, that's the only way I can account for my offers!

rejected from edinburgh for medicine-

5 a's at higher
3 predicted a's at advanced higher.
pretty bad standard grades however, 4 1's, 4 2's.

I think the standard grades were the reason...

Was my second choice i think.

For example : Politics - Predicted ABB - REJECTED

I think most people are forgetting how popular Edinburgh is, being the best university in Scotland it is bound to get many applications. So they have to reject a lot of people.

I got in and I was born and live in England :eek:

It's now my insurance.

I guess they must place importance on factors other than grades; I applied for politics, was predicted A A/B B b/a (english lang, media studies, politics, english lit) and was accepted. Maybe extra curricular experience plays a part? Personal statement? Or like other people have said, whether yr from a private/state school etc?

Ok well then I'll jump onto the bandwagon. Got an unconditional offer for psychology and business studies. Predicted grades AAAB. I'm an international, by the way, so I'm not sure whether that makes a difference. :redface:
