I'm just asking because I'm worrying about my GCSEs and I've only really felt motivated to start revising (I KNOW PLEASE DON'T HARASS ME! lol )

I mean do teachers mock harshly to scare us into revising for the real things or is it quite accurate to be honest?

eg - I got a C in my History Mock, yet I got an A* in my controlled assessment, B's in Chem + Phys yet As in my controlled Assessments?

They mark as the examiners would do, and that is harshly.

Our teacher is an examiner and if he allows something that isn't in the mark scheme too often he gets called out for it by the chief examiner and has to go back and mark them properly

Depends on your teacher, some may be harsh on a few marks for key concepts and ideas, wording etcetera. But overall, no. There is no way your mock will be given a C if it is in actuality A* grade material, or so on.

generally, yes. It's a tactic designed to scared fear into the hearts of their pupils so that they up the anti on their revision and come out with hella good grades

Some teachers grade harshly to try to scare students out of complacency and laziness.
Some teachers appear to grade harshly because they are unsure how generous examiners will be or exactly how to apply the mark scheme so are cautious.
Most teachers I know try to apply a mark scheme as accurately as possible to give you a realistic assessment of where you are and where you need to improve
Some teachers are incredibly generous in their marking because they want to inspire you to believe you are capable of great things.

Grades in controlled assessments don't always reflect grades achieved in mock or real exams.
Most people don't do as well in mocks as they do in their real exams, usually because they prepare better and have more time in between exams to plan for last minute effort.
No point worrying, all you can do is your best and use the time you have available wisely.
