    I also don't understand the term 'leaky' in terms of ion movement across an axon membrane?

    If theres a larger diameter, theres less K+ ion leakage due to larger surface area. Therefore the membrane potential is more positive (increasing towards +40 mV). The less ion leakage the faster the impulse due to quicker depolarisation of the membrane. Hope this helps
