Huge gash on knee and toe (warning:not pleasant!)

Took a nasty tumble on some gravel last night whilst wearing shorts and flip flops. Got nasty nasty grazes all over my knee - some of them look black, I'm assuming that'll be gravel stuck underneath... any advice as to what I should do? Was bleeding a little back then but isn't this morning. Put a giant cushioning dressing bandage over it. It's painful and I have a nasty limp now. :frown:

Also took a big piece of skin off my big toe (bout half an inch wide) which was bleeding heavily at the time but is ok now. It looks all shiny and raw though, I have no plasters in the house and wearing socks rubs against it and really hurts. Any tips for aftercare???

TIA

Just put savlon and buy plasters and get on with your life. These things happen.

clean it and dont wear socks. try and get the gravel out by gently rubbing something like a wet gause towards the direction of the cut. migh consider cleaning it with salt water but that will hurt alot.
leave it open to the air, keep it clean and dont wear anything that will rub/irrate it.

You did wash it afterwards before it healed over, right?

I suggest you just do your best not to walk around on it. Feet carry a lot of germs so walking around on the floor isn't gonna be a good thing. Keep washing it every day and it'll be gone within a few days, and try and get someone to pick you up a plaster from a shop or something... simple as that really. If you're worried you could use antiseptic cream, personally I don't see the point if it's not bleeding any more though.

First thing, if there's gravel in the cuts, you really need to get it out. If you're not able to do it yourself, or there's nobody in the house that can then go get medical help. It'll never be properly clean and heal if you've got stuff stuck in it.
