A lock for my room that is. I need all the steps. Where to buy the best lock and roughly how much will it be? Where do I find a locksmith person who I can hire to put in the lock? How much will that be? Help.

If you're getting a locksmith to fit it then they will also probably be able to supply a lock. If you search on google for locksmiths and your town you will probably find a few.

I would guess at most they'll charge about £100, but that would be a guess.

The other thing is if you're renting then you should check with the landlord before you have any work done. Also if the landlord is sensible they'll probably know someone who can do the work.

You can get locks you can buy yourself and install yourself very easily. No need to be spending a bunch of money.

Just go to your nearest hardware store and speak to the person behind the till, they'll guide you in the right direction.

You can get a simple one that is attached to the door (rather than inside it) and attach it yourself with screws. All you need to do is go somewhere like B&Q or Homebase, ask where locks are and find one that is screw on. Then grab a screwdriver and screws (make sure the screw driver fits the screw heads) and go attach it to your door. I expect there will be instructions in the pack, but if not you can ask a member of staff or google it. Won't cost much. I'd say under £20 for all the bits and around £5 for just the lock.
If you want a super sturdy lock just google locksmiths in your area, ask what lock they suggest and ask how much it would be for them to install it.
