I need my mac to stop going to sleep basically.. I plan to use it to read an e-book and need it to stay on the screen constantly without me hvin to move the cursor around as I will be takin notes.

Help

Select "System Preferences" from the Apple drop-down menu at the top left corner of the desktop.
  1. Click the "Energy Saver" icon in the Hardware section. ...
  2. Click the "Settings For" drop-down box and select "Power Adapter" from the drop-down list.
  3. Click the "Computer Sleep" slider and drag it all the way to right until you reach "Never"

hardware section? our system preferences must be different :/

It should be on the second row in your system preferences, looks like a light bulb.

Edit: Just realised you weren't OP and I totally just copied and pasted that from Google.
