Not really necessary.
oh, a clothing/accessory thread. What shirts is everyone going with? I've only just started looking, although my 15 pound no-name shirt got me through interviews i'll have to buy some more shirts anyway, any suggestions? I'll be at a business casual bank, what kind of trousers do people wear, just normal suit trousers??

Haven't thought about a briefcase yet, but i think that's a good idea.

Apparently some banks like to check the labels on your underwear and socks, so make sure they are expensive brands.

On a more serious note, make sure you have a halfway decent suit, not necessarily expensive, but a good fitting suit. A poor fitting suit looks very unprofessional and a bit silly at times.
well, my suit is cheap, but i still got the offer. Interning at a business casual BB i'm not concerned about suits anymore...nor ties. everyone i saw there was wearing just a pair of trousers and a shirt. they might have had their jacket at their desk, but then who cares if you arrive with or without a jacket if you don't wear it during the day.
I read on efinancial *I think*, that certain banks are opposed to anyone below the senior management wearing pink or yellow ties as they are for those in the higher positions. Anyone care to shed some light on this?

DEFINITELY wear a suit and tie for the first week at least. Only start removing items when they tell you. They will think very poorly of you if you turn up in just a shirt and trousers on your first day.
oh yeah and get these or you wont be taken seriously

Those ones don't have gold dollar symbols on them. You loser.

Bag/brief not necessary at all. And suit, tie until they suggest you stop or second day in if you really see no one else in it.
I think any intern with a briefcase would get laughed at. I reckon those leather folder thingies are fine. Be careful with bags - like no backpacks . Actually, a fellow intern went as far as wearing a waistcoat!!! But he sat under the air conditioning thingy and froze on a daily basis!!
Backpacks are fine. Or they are for fulltime employees

Don't overdress - you'll look like a complete noob and reek that you're an intern. And considering 95% interns overdress, they all stand out SO quickly.

Key thing for interns: add value. Make them realize why you'd give them something different. Show some ****ing passion.

I'd imagine it's better to overdress than to underdress.

Overdress being a suit, tie, et cetera, not the gold-dollar sign red suspenders... :p:

overdress is just as bad as underdress.

suit and tie, polished shoes, decent hair and pressed trousers - nothing more, nothing less. And make sure your shirt is crisp with a crease.

Now, it also has to look natural. We dress like this every day (or business casual) and it can be pulled off without looking like a complete noob. And adjust accordingly. If everyone on your desk just wears a shirt and trousers, don't continue coming into work in a three piece.

That's exactly what I meant. I thought some people on this forum may have thought that was overdressing.

By the way, what's the standard for colour of shirts? Is it just white, perhaps blue? Or are other colours 'allowed' for interns?

Man, theres no a specific standard of colors...any shirts can do, even pink. As long you look smart.
