So my friend put the idea into my head of volunteering abroad for a couple of weeks in the summer, specifically with animals.
She was looking at this...
...and I have to say I quite fancied some of them like the working with sun bears in Borneo.
However, the catch is that they cost around £1000 and none of them include flight prices. If it was £1000 all inclusive, I would be up for that, but with flights on top, it's far too expensive for something that is supposed to be a volunteering activity let alone a holiday.
So with that said, does anyone know of similar volunteering opportunties abroad with animals under the £1000 region including flights? What about volunteering/travel experiences not limited to working with animals? I really would like to do something different this summer!
What are some good volunteering abroad activities? Watch

If you're having to pay, it's not really volunteering. I would avoid companies that try to con you by saying you can go "volunteering" somewhere, then try to charge you as if it's a full on holiday.
Your basic travel expenses and board at least should be provided. Just remember, as much as you might really really want to do it, you're still doing them a service. If you can't find anything, perhaps look at some charities directly - Save The Children and Red Cross are both charities that I imagine would fly volunteers out and put them up while they did their valuable work.
