A woman on the BBC made this statement, "We still think, we are white, we are great. Black, you're not good enough" People applauded her!

White people will realise how false this statement is. I fear that black people who watched the programme may believe this is actually true.

Unfortunately, she has made a racist statement here, yet no one in the audience seems to question it. She gets a round of applause. Why?

    Why does she think this?

You have taken her quote out of context. If you simply take what she said, then you can spin it any context you like. But when taken in the context of the discussion which was about empire and the dominance of one set of people over the other, it makes perfect sense.

It is interesting that the current debate about Europe has similar themes. The idea that Britain needs to regain its sovereignty; that 'they' can't impose 'their' will and 'their' laws on us; that we can be great once again as we were when we were an empire, forgetting of course that the British empire was absolutely ruthless in many respects.

She's suggesting that all white people think they are superior to black people, because of their race. I didn't take it out of context, she says this is the case in the present day.

I don't see the relevance of Europe in this debate.

Don't you think that such a statement is not only racist, but also divisive?
