    Hi,

So I am a university student and I recently handed in a submission quite late.

The thing is I believe I have some grounds for Extenuating Circumstances (ER) because basically a close family relative was recently sent to a mental hospital for being mentally troubled. This meant that I had to spend some more time with my family and I was noticeably a bit stressed.

But I am not sure if I should consider putting it through. Do I have to prove that he is a close family relative? How does this EC work?

It depends on the university to be honest. I think it's best to speak to the uni's student center and try to find out.

The process will vary from uni to uni- however, most universities would expect you to apply for an extension as soon as you realized you wouldn't reach the deadline, rather than applying for extenuating circumstances after the fact.

If your uni requires proof, this could also be quite difficult to obtain, as it would involve medical professionals disclosing confidential information.

As a first step, I'd suggest talking to someone like your personal tutor or student services about the situation.

speak to your personal tutor but as the above poster said, you should have asked for an extension at the time, you would probably have been granted one but the likelihood is you wouldn't qualify for extra marks etc

Do you agree with the PM's proposal to cut tuition fees for some courses?
