Is anybody else here thinking of doing medicine? I am wanting to do medicine but right now I'm only in 4th year and I'm doing Highers next year (Scottish exams).
Just wondering if anybody had advise for getting into medicibe, work experience, personal statements, the whole shabang.
Thanks in advance for any replies!

Me too! Have you chosen your Highers? If so, which ones?
i've been checking around all the hospitals and they all seem to have age restriction for shadowing doctors. You have to be 16, but if you already are then I would recommend emailing local GP practices, hospitals etc to see if they could take you on in the holidays for a week or so. If you're looking for regular work experience you can join the St Andrew's ambulance as a volunteer, work at youth groups, help out at old peoples' homes or pretty much anything where you have to use people skills.
I'd also recommend trying to be a prefect or on the head team at your school. They tend to look on stuff like that really favourably.
There are 5 Universities that have medicine courses in Scotland; Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, Aberdeen and St Andrews. 4 of them primarily offer a 5 year course, but students at Edinburgh study for 6 years with a year of study on a specialised topic (like psychology, sports medicine etc).
I wouldn't worry too much about personal statements yet as you won't be applying for over a year, but you can try out draft ones on "my world of work" if you get an account. They all offer tips on interviews, work experience and stuff.
If you've got your mind on a particular university, I'd recommend going to an open day to talk to medical students and see the work they do. It's great to see the different styles of teaching and helps when deciding which university's right for you.
Sorry if i haven't been able to give much information- I'm in exactly the same boat as you!
