Pill in the UK, how does it work?

Hey!
I'm moving to England soon (from Germany) and I have no clue what I'm gonna do with my pill.
I'm on a pill called "Juliette" now and I'm pretty happy with it.
Here you go to the gynocologist and get a prescription for the pill and then you buy it. I'm not sure if it works exactly the same in the UK with NHS and everything but if my pill is not available there, should I change to another brand?
Well I guess I'd have to but anyway, it'd be cool to get some info about it, thanks!

You go to the doctor (or nurse) and say 'can I please have some more of my pill' then they give you a prescription and you take it to the dispensary or chemist and they give it to you. You don't have to pay anything for it because it's contraception.

Never heard of that brand but as far as I'm aware they should all be available on the NHS providing their insurance covers it (i.e. it's not some dangerous drugs... which I assume it's not). So you won't have to change.

You'll need to register with a GP... I assume you knew that (that'll be much harder than actually getting medication)

lol OP, do you mean "dianette"?

Can you not get enough to last you while you are here and then I assume you will be going back to germany in the holidays you can get more prescribed.

can you ask your doctor back home to give you a year's prescription of your pill? it's done here so i'm sure your doc wouldn't mind if you explain the circumstance  if that's not a possibly, get enough to last you about 1-2 months after you get to the uk. in the mean time,go to a local NHS doc, speak to them and they'll be able to help you from there.they'll probably prescribe you another pill which you'll start immediately after you've finished your julianette pack

Bring a packet of your current pill + all of the packaging that came with it, and show that to the nurse/doctor you see in the UK. If the same brand exists here, they'll prescribe it for you, but if it doesn't, they'll use the information from your existing pill, to try and find the closest match.

Chances are, they'll have to put you on a slightly different pill, but they'll hopefully find you one that's similar enough to your current one for you not to notice any unwanted side effects

All prescribed contraception is free in the UK. You would get your prescription from a doctor or nurse, then pick it up from the chemist's. You can get 6 month's supply at a time, but whenever you need more, you have to go back to the doctor/nurse again, to get your blood pressure checked out. Nothing to worry about; just standard practice here.

(If it's just the pill you're after, a nurse can generally prescribe it for you - she or he will have to get a doctor to sign it off, but you can see a nurse instead of a doctor if that's easiest at the clinic you go to.)

However, they may not have that pill here.

My cousin went to live in Spain and she tried to get the pill there that she had in England but when she showed the Doc (in Spain) the prescription for her old one he said they didn't have it in Spain.. so I guess it could work vice versa.

um, no.

Thanks for the replies.
In Germany you have to pay the full price once you turn 20, it's a bit silly and expensive.

I'll go and see my doctor before I go anyway, I guess I'll get a 6 month pack, that'll probably give me enough time to find a GP there.

They are a huge numbers of different preparations here... There will be one similar though it will not matter in the long run switching from one formulation to another.
