I'm not a history person, but how about museum work?

yeah, doing it, I worked at an infant school for my actual school work experience, then over the summer I'm working at a musuem for history work experience!! I wamted to see if there is any other type I can consider doing that also might help

I did some work experience at a historical research institute in Germany. It was boring as heck, I was left sorting files alphabetically for three weeks . That was great fun. I don't really know anything else, you might try archaeological sites if you're into that... frankly I thought about a career as an academic historian, I gave it up, I'm off to study Law now... History is a great subject, but I wouldn't want to work in that field. Try and get as much different work experiences during your degree as you can (preferably in the economy/industry) and you should be fine.

i wrote about going to help a specific musuem in America relating to colonial history in my personal statement , but that was a lie
Which accompaniment is best?
