I'm not from the UK, but I'll be attending uni there. I here so much talk about freshers week but still don't quite understand exactly what it is. What is it comprised of? What is the purpose? Is it a formal, structured "itinerary" of things for all freshers? Is it free? I know it sounds ridiculous, but should one pack a specific wardrobe for freshers week? If it's school specific, I should be going to UCL or Univ of Bristol.

    Thanks

it is a week of drunkenness and misbehavior. a suitable wardrobe would be easily washable or disposable garments.

Essentially, it's a period of piss ups. The freshers season will have activities and stuff designed for you to make new friends, and get to know the people you'll be spending your course/accommodation with. Usually by having sex with them.

During freshers week you'll probably have a few scheduled meetings at your university (e.g to meet your tutors and stuff), but largely freshers week involves seeing the sights and stuff.

The large majority of it is optional (such as shagging everyone you meet). Just wear what you would expect to normally wear.

Freshers week, is usually a week or two weeks, before the commencement of your studies at university. You settle into your accommodation, you have some formal inductions and maybe a social event with your faculty. There are societies fairs where you can join any clubs that are of interest to you. The student union will usually put on a few events as well to welcome all the freshers.

But as others said it is basically a week of getting drunk every night, and eating crap and if you are lucky sleeping around with your fellow students. It is great fun, and you'll meet dozens and dozens of people who's name you'll probably never remember. If you aren't that way inclined then there will be other like minded people and events to go to.
