AQA - Sociology GCSE Paper 2016 - Predictions

Was wondering if anyone had any predictions regarding what is likely to come up on the 2016 Sociology papers - both Studying Society; Education; Families and Crime and Deviance; Mass Media; Social Inequalities.
Thanks!

anyone else feel like crying lmao
Hello!
Yes, we were wondering what keywords might come up. Hoping education is about labelling and stuff like that. 4 mark question on families might be about the different types? I really don't know! Haha...Good luck!
I feel like crying! Hope the questions are good; the papers last year for GCSE Sociology weren't very good were they...Hope that works in our favour!

Nice to see that someone else takes Sociology for GCSEs! Atm revising Studying Societies. Unit 2 is way too hard! :frown: I just hope the 12 markers are do-able.

Can't believe it's on Monday.
That's like in 2 days...
*Starts panicking*
I know! Unit 2 is reliant on more content knowledge and stuff, and you have to know more terminology (I think) - I find unit 2 much more difficult!

I am panicking that it is in two days!
Never hear of many people taking GCSE Sociology...On here, I keep seeing A level stuff when looking for GCSE comments!

i have noooo idea what will come up but i would assume the worst. prepare for questions which have either never come up or been in very old papers. i think this because of the fact that gcses are changing a lot especially for the year below and i have a feeling that they will already begin to make it harder for our year. the main thing i would advise is to revise common questions but also look at 2010,2011 past papers etc and dig for questions you haven't seen or questions that have never come up - for this i would recommend using your textbook!

Timing is another issue for me...
As soon as I open that paper I'm jumping to 12 markers first. Teachers advise that we spend no more than 15 mins on each- but that's just the problem! It takes me like a good 15-20 minutes on just one 12 marker. Really don't know how I'm going to manage time. Anyways, how do your teachers normally tell you how to answer 12 markers? I would like to know how you structure the answer. Thanks.
Hello!
We work the timings out as a minute = 1 mark. So 30 minutes on each section - 12 minutes, 12 marks.
I struggle to keep timing and stuff. Just got to try our best.
I'm hoping that because of how controversial last year's paper was, it will work in our favour this year, as the exam board can't afford to mess anything else up. Worst case senario, and we don't understand questions etc. they should recognise this, and lower the grade boundaries.
Hey guys, Ill be taking the exam too :frown:
What are you predicted for Sociology?
And how do you structure your 12 Markers?
(edited 7 years ago)
I'm predicted an A* and I structure them into 4 parts, a mega quick intro maybe explaining the key words they use, for example in education, educational achievement may be GSCE grades ! then I write a paragraph on why sociologists would agree, and 1-2 paragraphs on why the would disagree and then to address the "how far" a conclusion.
I do something similar to this! 👍
I am predicted a C, but have been getting A* and As - hopefully the exam will be okay!
Good luck!!

This is how we structure 12 Markers at our school. Please let me know if your school suggests the same way. Or if it differs a little.

Intro: Define key words e.g. gender socialisation. -Write down a very brief, quick point For and Against (No explanation)

2x Paragraphs For (In P.E.E)
2x Paragrphs Against (P.E.E)

Conc: Evaluate 'How far...' and then write down a quick new point or example.

That's how we've always been taught to answer them, but 6 paragraphs in 15 mins :frown:

How are yours done?
I'm totally stressing too!! Nothing is going in my brain and I have work all day tomorrow n no time to revise on Monday!! Plus I have 2 RE exams in Monday too:/
Very similar actually!
Although I keep the intro very brief - just defining keywords and saying about what they are interested in.

Then...

1 paragraph for agree
1 paragraph for disagree

Conclusion: "how far", and a brief example or fact to support the conclusion

It's so difficult to write a this in 12 minutes! Wish the exam was longer!
My friend also does both Sociology and RS, both exams on Monday!
Good luck!

Thanks. Have you ever gotten full marks with just a single point of for and against? If so then I can chill in the exam if i dont have 2 points each to talk about
Anyways, do let me know how the exam goes on Monday! Good luck!!!!
Has anyone got any tips for unit 2, my teacher didn't finish the course so I'm stressing !
