Anyone here self-studying A-level Chemistry, or has previously done so?

Hi all,

I'm a mature student looking to do A-level Chemistry through self-studying after I finish my Biology exams next month. I am unsure which exam board to go with, and wondered if anyone here who is currently studying or has self-studied Chemistry has any input?

It doesn't matter if it is an out-dated specification that can no longer be entered for or one of the new ones (since there tend not to be really drastic changes between new and old spec content), but I am interested in:

-Which exam board you went/are with
-What the workload is/was like
-How clear and structured their specification and textbooks are/were
-How easy you found it to enter for an exam with them (I mean in terms of paperwork and forms).

I don't know if I will need to obtain the practical skills endorsement, but I'm also interested in hearing how people are finding/found the practical work, since I would need to travel a long way to do this component. I cannot do an access course-unfortunately I live in a backwater over 40 miles away from the nearest appropriate one and can't afford the weekly travel.

Thanks for reading-any thoughts and advice on this will be much appreciated.
