I would appreciate any advice regarding my concerns. I have decided to close my current Facebook account, which I have owned since September 2010. This is for a number of reasons, but the most important of these is that I wanted to make a 'fresh start' and I did not feel that I could do this with an account I have owned since I was 16/17 years of age. I also feel that by closing it and opening a new one, I could wipe the slate clean and start over. The only issue with this is that obviously, my entire message history, timeline, and so on will be removed and something that has been a constant throughout those years will be gone in a flash. Whilst I have been able to download a copy of my Facebook Archive, I am concerned that it will not be so easy to go back if I need to refer to old messages. Additionally, I am concerned that my current Facebook friends will be slightly confused about receiving another request from me, although I had posted two messages on my timeline that stated that I was considering the closure of my account. At this time, the account has been closed, although I have been given a 14-day period if I wish to reactivate it.
I suppose a Facebook account is not necessary, but in the 21st century, it is an important part of networking and so forth. Therefore, I am not sure what to do and would appreciate any advice.

Have you contacted Facebook about your timeline and old messages?

It would take a while but it would allow you to keep the facebook as is and at a later date you could change the name back and re-add people if you wanted
