Just wondering if anyone had any tips on how to structure the essay for paper 1 section a (shakespeare). My teachers say treat the two bits of the question separately but I find that really hard... How is everyone else planning to structure the essay on Friday?

I would personally write it out as if it were two questions.

So your first two paragraphs or so should be about how Shakespeare presents love in the extract. This is testing your extract analysis skills. So just focus on how he uses language, form and structure to present different types of love in the passage.

Then your next 2 or 3 paragraphs should be about the questions that's being asked in association with the extract as well as elsewhere in the play.

So if you were analyse something strong women of a certain character - you would start off by mentioning the extract. Then the next would be "this is similarly seen when [the character] is shown in [act 3] etc. Then you might want to compare it with another character elsewhere in the play. This part of the question is testing your knowledge of the play as a whole, so make sure you're constantly comparing the extract with the rest of the play.
