Just wondering if anybody had any success stories/comments in recommendation of counselling sessions? I've just booked a session after struggling with my MH for years and I suppose I'm just looking for affirmation that I've done the right thing. In my mind there's no way that merely talking about my problems is going to make them go away. I tend to try and forget about them, and historically talking about it is a bit of a recipe for disaster, to put things not so cryptically. I'm already dreading going as I'm sure I'm going to feel worse afterwards. I know counselling is the sort of thing that takes a while to work but if I feel awful after my first session then I'm not going to go back as I can't be dealing with the extra stress at this time of the year.

    Cheers

I have seen counsellors before - it can be really good to get things off your chest/find a new perspective etc. Sometimes just having a non judgemental space that is just for you can be really helpful. I guess it depends what you are looking for, counselling can't make your problems disappear but by talking them through they may have less of a hold on you or you might find new techniques to cope with them. I would say that it is quite normal to feel worse after counselling sessions, especially at the beginning, if you are talking about difficult stuff but then it tends to get easier...
