just write a generic letter along the lines of 'dear sir or madam i am ------ and i wish for you to be my mentor as i respect you and what you do and wondered if you could help me to better myself'
go into more depth of course and get around half a page then work out where you can send it and print off the required copies and mail them it will cost you about 75P per copy including postage so limit yourself to 10-20 potentials and send them a letter each
best case you get a mentor
worst case you get no replies
as think about it a negative reply is still a reply they took the time to reply to you

Speak to your school/college to see if they can recommend someone.
