    Describe the method of measuring the order of reaction with respect to HCl in the reaction between
    Na2S2O3 + HCl
    Please help.

    You just need to do a study of the rate of reaction with different ratios of thiosulfate and HCl. For example:

    Do 1mmol of thiosulfate to 1mmol of HCl
    Then, 1mmol of thiosulfate to 2mmol of HCl
    then, 1mmol of thiosulfate to 4mmol of HCl..

    So on, so forth.

    If the rate doubles when you double the concentration of HCl, then the reaction is first order with respect to HCl
    If the rate quadruples when you double the concentration of HCl, then the reaction is 2nd order with respect to HCl

    This is similar to what I wrote, my tutor says I have to keep the volume of the beaker the same, but I'm not sure how.

    Well you'd generally make it up to a volume with another solvent, such as water. So in reality what you'd is like

    1mL of 1m Thiosulfate solution, 1mL of 1M HCl and 8mL of water

    Then for the others you'd just add extra HCL and make the rest up with water, keeping the volume constant, i.e the ratios:

    1:1:8
    1:2:7
    1:4:5
