If someone could help that would be great, basically my IPhone 5 sometimes turns off randomly, and most of my apps crash and don't open properly. So when I restart my phone the apps start working again until a few hours later. Is it best to wipe the memory and restore the data?

Happens to me when I'm about to run out of memory space. Try to delete everyhting you do not need anymore and see if the problem is fixed afterwards. If not, then just make a back up of everything on your computer on Itunes, reset your phone and add the information back from your computer to the phone.
