This week on The Surgery Gemma and Dr Radha are talking about creativity.

Do you dream of a creative career but worry about where you'll find the money or the contacts? Or are you planning on a career your parents won't approve of? Maybe you have an idea but no clue where to start?

Whatever your situation, share it on here and we'll do our best to answer your queries on The Surgery, BBC Radio 1, 9pm Wednesday 18th May.

I really want to work in the media as a writer (content/copywriting/magazine journalism) but I do worry about earnings and not having the right contacts.

I'm just at the beginning of (what I hope will be) a carreer as a fantasy author. I've been trying to learn how to promote myself better, and am currently writing to agents in an attempt to get my first novel picked up.

My work has been selling quite well as an ebook on Amazon, but I still feel like there's something to overcome if I want an actual career in it.

Yes i really want a creative career. Initially i was going to do something science related a couple years back because i thought that that is what would be expected of me. However as much as i love science things it really isn't my passion or something i have a natural aptitude or flair for. Turns out everyone around me wanted me to pursue art because it is my passion and so now i am working my way towards a design degree after choosing creative subjects including art at A-level
i'm not that concerned about earning because art and design can be lucrative, after all someone needs to design all the phones and gadgets everyone seems to love nowadays

    Put off by what?
Partly because of my teacher and the other reason is that I don't think English and writing is me anymore.

Would really love to make my hobby to a profession, but being an artist is a tough business and the number of very good artists is enormous - the ones who are better in it surely too. As I am very aware of that, I was starting an apprenticeship to earn money after that and I am starting to study when the circumstances match.

I'd love to be a playwright but it's probably not going to happen!

What is the problem not to give that a try at least? Did you think about an appropriate study to make the steps in the right direction?

I do it in my free time but I'm taking an unrelated degree as I didn't want to do English or Creative Writing.

In other words: you are studying something what is completely different to playwright. You do it as a hobby at least, that is fine. Anyway, it is very rarely that a hobby becomes a profession.
