Cambridge Chat (previously New Cambridge Students Entry 2004)

boohoo....
Does anyone know when the figure skating is going to be on on BBC?
Helenia
Caius May Ball Launch, in Harvey Court, at a guess

Am annoyed with silly boyfriend and silly self this morning.

Why? Did something happen?

Yes, but it's not a big deal, just irritating because it meant more hassle for me.

We went to formal on Tuesday, but I'd cycled straight from Brownies and had to change once I got to Hall, so I had a rucksack full of my Brownie gear and so on. Some of my friends and I decided to go to Cindies, but he didn't want to come. Seeing as I had an early and wasn't going to be out late, I gave him my rucksack to take home to his and said I'd come over once I'd left Cindies. So I duly arrived at his at ~11:45, we go to bed etc, and then I realise my bag's not in his room...he left it in John's bar where he stopped off on the way home. Obviously by the time I realised, the bar would be closed, and wouldn't be open when I left the next morning for rowing. Hence I was without my proper trainers, hairbrush, all sorts of stuff, plus there is a very expensive badge in my kit which I am very protective of.

So, I get up at 5:45, and remember I've left my bike at Old Court. Walk the long way out of John's to go and get it, but then decide that Trinity Street (very poorly lit, nobody about except scary big issue man) was not a good idea when I didn't have glasses and couldn't see properly. So I walked home, had to dig my old bike out of the store, pump up the tyres and get to the boathouse. Old bike is far too small and the seat is broken so it wasn't very comfortable. And I don't have half my normal kit for lectures. Just minor annoyances - with him for forgetting my bag (though he got it back and that's all ok) and me for not thinking about my bike.

And that's storytime for today, children.

They have their schedules in PDF format and the singles are on the 14th and 16th for men and 21st and 23rd for women and some other days for pairs.

Juggling was good on Wednesday. A couple of really good club people normally involved with the Community Circus came and I managed to do a 4 ball trick so I'm quite pleased with myself at the moment.

Ah, I'd hate that to happen to me. What happened about the rowing this afternoon? Are you just not going to go seeing as no one else turned up or something? Again, I'd be pretty pissed off if that happened.
OK, here's a plan to stop that happening again:

-Get some handcuffs.
-Handcuff him to the bag
-Tell him the keys are in his room.
-Boy is too embarrassed and can't drink with bag locked to wrist, so must take it straight back.

Genius!

Oh, and I've just spent £600 of Clare's money (well, Clare Ent's to be exact!) on buying some new lights for Cellars, so if anyone comes to ents after a few weeks when they've arrived you can see my handiwork!

We were meant to be racing but I had to cancel because we didn't have a full crew despite my best efforts to get subs. Tis not good, 2 weeks before the Getting on Race for Bumps.

That's a shame. If I could do it I would! Even though I have no idea how to row *intends on learning to row very soon*. I'm really confused about all the different names for all the rowing- anyone care to help me out? So there's torpids, bumps and...?

torpids = Oxfords "2nd term" bumps
Summer Eights = Oxfords "3rd term" bumps

Lent Bumps = Cambridges "2nd term" bumps
May Bumps = Cambridges "3rd term" bumps

Fairbairns = A Cambridge Time Trial race that happens at the end of Michaelmas.
(I dont think Oxford have an equivilent...just ChCh regatta)

Cheers. Useful info. Highly original names are the Cambridge ones!
And Clare Novices Regatta, which is at the end of Mich term; Pembroke Regatta which is in the middle of Lent term; and various other Head races (time trials) over the course of the year.
Wow, quite a lot of races then! Must take a lot of training.

Well, not everyone races in everything, these are just things that happen. Most clubs do Pembroke though, and EVERYONE does Bumps. Other races are just things that happen along the way unless you're training for the Blues, in which case the Boat Race is the big one.

Cool. What teams are you in? Have you ever considered the Boat race? Or is that just for men? I'm not sure. This year I'll definitely be supporting Cambridge- in the past it's been Oxford- but this time Cam for definite. I'm gonna do Rowing next term as I want to get into it- sounds really good fun.

"THE" boat race is just for men. There is a women's equivilent that happens the day before (along with the lightweight men and women's races), but it's much less high profile at the moment. The men's boat race tends to be stacked with international rowers, who in my opinion arent really that representative of the general student populus. Better to take a look at the reserve men's boat race (which happens just before the main event, so they sometimes show some of it on the TV).

I row for Clare 2nd women, because I'm too lazy to train for the firsts

I very briefly considered going on the CUWBC development squad over the summer (training camp with the University coaches for those possibly interested) but thought it'd probably be a wasted effort as I was likely not to make it.

The main Boat Race that is on TV is just for men, though they do occasionally have female coxes (but I'm far too big to be a cox) - the other Oxford v Cambridge races are on the previous day at Henley.

I'm in SSBC W1. Not keen on committing to more than that though.

Currently rather drunk thanks to the THBC drinking people. I know it's my fault for being friends with the nominal head of their drinking society, but urgh. Did not really fancy downing over 2 bottles of wine. And am very impressed with the quality/accuracy of my typing.

FaT were also at the Curry King, no? And Queens' football teams?

No should me and a bunch of mates from Trinity, only one apart from me rows, with some girls from Newnham who I know a couple of.

Lectures now, that's what annoys be about Maths, you get as drunk as everyone else on Friday night, then you're the only one with lectures the next day. Out of the 19 in our gang at the curry King, I was the only one with lectures today.

Gah, don't even remember posting that. There seem to be massive gaps in my memory of last night.
