that's the one. It's the catalogue aria.

Mum's an opera buff. I'm more partial to tenor arias obviously. "Nesun Dorma" or for the duet "Au fond du temple sant"(sp.?)(Pearlfisher's Duet)

Tosca

Nice, i would've liked to see Nabuco there, the "Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves" would blow your head off.

Tosca

Tosca is good. Pitty, I lost the the 1st CD
Camford
I'm sure he has more than one, otherwise it won't be needing 2 CDs to record. Either I remember it wrong, or you remembered it wrong... I probably remember the names wrong, well.

I'm certain there's only one - there's is also the scottish fantasia for violin andd orchetra which as I said is crap.

Can't help it even if I wanted to. I am doomed for life now.

Soon you will even laugh at my jokes about Japanese weaponry!

Bruch got 3 violin concertos. I was right, it said on the CD, 1, 2 and 3. G Minor, D minor and D minor.

now i'm not a verdi fan but that's a cool opera (and not just because of the sexy cor anglais solo - lol, I guess i'm the only one who thinks it's sexy). The hebrew slaves chorus is pretty cool.

I got it from local library, made a CD image of it (2 images of course). Then my computer crashed, lost a few CD images.

Right, well I don't understand any of that but I have the EMI Maria Callas said to be one of the best recording of it. On real can-touch-them CDs. I hate music files cause I lost all of mine :frown:(

Hey priya, how's your italian going? Here's a challenge for you to translate.

Madamina!
Il catalogo e questo,
Delle belle, che ano il padron mio!
Un catalogo egli e ch'ho fatto io:
Osservate, leggete con me! observe, read with with me
In Italia seicento e quaranta, in italy 640(640 what?)
In Alemangana suecento tret'una; in germany? duecent trent'una?(231)
Cento in Francia, in Turchia novant'una, 100 in france, 91 in turkey
Ma, ma in Ispagna, son gia mille e tre! but, but in spain, it is already 1003
V'han fra queste contadine. between these famers/labourers (dunno what v'han means, it's a dialectal thing i think)
Cameriere cittadine; waiters of small cities?
V'han Contesse, Baronesse, baronesses
Marchesane, Principesse, princesses
Ev'han donne d'ogni grado,
D'ogni forma d'ogni eta.
Nella bionda, egli ha l'usanza
Di lodar la gentilezza,-
Nella bruna la costanza,
Nella bianca la dolcezza!
Vuol d'inverno la grassotta
Vuol d'estate la magrotta;
E la grande, maestosa;
La piccina, ognoe vezzosa. should that be picina?
Delle vecchie fa conquista
Per piacer di porle in lista:
Sua passion predominante her passion/desire dominates/is dominant
E la giovin principiante giovane? meaning youthful..she's young and naive?
Non si picca, se sia ricca- not at her prime, whether she is rich?
Se sia brutta, se sia bella! whether she be ugly, whether she be beautiful
Purche porti la gonnella,
Voi sapete quel che fa! you talk about what to do?

mamma mia ai ai ai. ok taking into account my appalling below gcse vocab levels....something to do with women. i think. it's very coloquial/dialectial though. and it's all in formal address

on the whole, utterly confusing but thanks...my translation skills are pretty shoddy, would help if i'd actually looked at my italian reading

Edit: aha it's from an opera
Originaly posted by Loads of People
Too many quotes about music and operas
Wah! I can't keep up! And what's worse, all the music I can think about right now is the theme tune from Tiny Planets! I took me ages to read up to here, and everytime I refresh the page there's like 3 more posts! I'm having a UKL (sorry, TSR) overload!

most of my music is on vinyl (it was either my mums or just people who have died). I won't have a turntable in Cambridge so i'll have to leave it all at home.
