Heya,
I'm from sunny (!) Wales, in the South Eastern Valley of Torfaen. It's not the best place to live...
Sorry no picture of me (I'll spare your eyes) not that I'd know how to show it/link to it anyway! I'm not too confident of making my offer but still excited at even the slighted chance that I might! I'm pretty crazy about Archaeology and the Cambridge course seems pretty fantastic, but then I'd be extremely happy to be studying it anywhere! You seem like a friendly bunch, which is good to know!

oh we are!! and im especially glad theres someone else who's heading to newnham  I'm nuts about geology - so you know, if i dig up a pot i can give it to you...
Was newnham your first choice college? It was mine. All the pwetty victorian buildings and the lovely gardens and lovely people...ahh it was all good
(Incedentally a word of warning - Gzftan is self-appointed 'morale officer' of the thread and does not take well to negative-talk re:exam grades )

Wow mega-long thread! Add me to the prospective (fingers tightly crossed) Newnham crew .

No....it wasn't through choice, they said I was too young (even though I'll be 18 when I start the course), so said they'd give me an offer on the condition that I deferred (and also got AAA which is gonna be the biggest hurdle!). Hence I didn't plan a gap year and so I'm not really doing anything, apart from getting my performance diploma. Most people on here seem to be scientists!!

Theres an architect around (scarlet ibis) and many others, but yeah, the majority are scientists. maybe its because arts students have better things to do than post on forums, i dunno
I was considering deferring and working in a gap year to earn a load of money, but then i figured i'd get out of the work habit. Attending night school and stuff might have been interesting - wicker basket weaving sounds like fun! Or alternatively something constructive (pardon the pun) like a language...
Either way - you looking forward to your year out?

Not really! I was looking forward to getting away and starting afresh, and getting stuck into uni life. I could always go to my insurance, but I haven't applied for my student loan this year so actually I couldn't unless I sponged off someone! I'll be so annoyed if I miss my grades though - a year out for nothing!!

You could always reapply to cambridge and take up some further A levels in your gap year (if you wanted to stay on longer at college that is...:frown:) Although you'd have to apply for a different college...
But we don't talk about that on this thread. We are all getting the grades. Period
You could view it as an opportunity. Perhaps work experience you could gain in your year out could improve your re application to cam (if you so wanted) or even...dare i say it...apply to Oxford instead

lol I was thinking of that, but the chances are that if I didn't get the grades then they wouldn't be good enough for Cambridge next year either if you know what I mean...if I ended up getting AAB then they probably would reject me if I reapplied! Though I could retake modules, but they'd know about it and it would weaken my application I think if it took me 3 years to get As!

Let's just hope we get the grades! I think we will...I'm gonna be optimistic! What's your offer?

AAA :frown:
Some poor sods have worse than that though. AAAB..AAAAB...STEP... nasssty stuff. I did take AS chem this year though, although its not on my formal offer, so if i drop to a B in maths (very likely) and get an A in chem i'll rattle on about how i'm *only* doing geology not something maths-intensive like physics or chemistry, and that i got an A in AS french, so it is KIND of equivalent to an A at A2... ah well.

I think that means we shall have to be the prospective Newnham Krew then . I'm from London, btw. Also there's at least one more possible Newnhamite here that I know of - Hannah, are you out there? And did you send off your Admissions Office stuff? I forgot to remind you!

Anyway, I'm just back from an amazing week in Corfu and am getting on for the second 48 hours without sleep in one week, hence it's beddy-byes time for me. Afternoon all .

I know...some STEP offers are just ridiculous!! I'm doing 4 valid A-levels though (and also general studies, but that's not included in the offer), so I have some lee-way. I think that your AS may help you out if you miss your grades, you'd just have to pleed your case and hope that loads of others missed their offers but let's hope it doesn't come to that!!

yay and I'll be a Newnhamite too!! We should all meet for a drink in the bar (though I had a look at it last sat and it looks a little dreary. According to one of the students it's not the most frequented of college bars...

From the fingers of the current Newnham JCR president...
bar as i said needs refurbishment but should be sorted by easter and if not i'll make sure it's done over summer!
So hopefully it'll look prettier if/when we get there, even if it is still slightly lacking in terms of the number of visitors .

Night. And when you wake up - do you happen to know if we're allowed animals in newnham (eg, gerbils?)

You are too young, by far! Everyone knows 27 is the ideal age to start

I'm back everyone!

Has anyone set up any groups/societies in my absense (I may read this thread, but I feel it's got just that wee tad too long for me to do so right now!

Any other medics or Girtonians joined thread in past week that you know of?

Why you doing so much man...

You English are strange! I got my 4As last year. Not 5,6,7, etc with STEP and all that nonsense!

Why do more than you need to and endanger the grades you all could so easily get otherwise?

That's what I like to see! Arrogant Pompey people
