its not that uncommon to have just 3 alevels. for a start any mature students etc who did alevels under the old system would be unusual if they had >3.

It would be unusual if they had all A's.

Toi be honest I didn't read the whole thread, but the point still stands, as a Fresher who has been in Cambridge 15 minutes, you have no right to say what A-Levels are or aren't good enough. I know many, many very clever people who did non-traditional A-Levels (One example, PPEist you did Physics, Media, Art and Geography, got a very respectable 2.1) and did very well in the Oxbridge enviroment. Of course traditional subjects are better suited to the Oxbridge systme, I don't think anyone could/or would deny that, but that doesn't mean people studying other subject are thickos and have no right to be here.

AH But that's my pointy.....he didnt do ALLL mickymouse subjects...he has respectable subjects in there as well....I was disagreeing with people who applied with JUST micky mouse a-levels

WHY CAN NOBODY READ WHAT I ****ING WRITE!
crana9
yeah, cos that makes loads of sense!

Which bit, the Chemistry being micky mouse sense?

Would you let someone who didn't do A'Level maths come to Cambridge and do Engineering?

yes....if they were good at the maths....or did physics or something. Tbh I wouldnt think they would get in if they had Thearte studies, Media studies and Sociology unless they had been hiding their talent

Not with those *s they can't.

I agree. I wouldn't bother with those people, they'll get rejected anyway. When that happens, we can laugh.

Em... if they were good at maths, then why didn't they do A'Level maths then? (Paul Jefferys does not count)

Look guys...All I was saying was I dont think people who have only micky mouse a-levels should be applying, because mickymouse a levels arent relevant at all to any of the subjects. I defined micky mouse subjects as media studies for one...i bordered on sociology but said that was more respectable. Tbh I was stating the BLOODY OBVIOUS...I.e someone who has no relevants skills WONT GET IN!

No, they wouldn't be able to handel the maths content required. But if they did Maths, Physics, Media and Technology, I wouldn't rate them any high that someone who did Maths, Physics, History and Biology, just because the former happens to do 2 non-traditional subjects.

Aha, that's where human nature gets in. The person who states the obvious in a company normally gets the sack, Gerry McGuire for one, Tom from Spooks for two.

then why are you being just as ignorant as those people in assuming i meant that people who did micky-mouse subjects should be allowed in. Jesus christ, in the first bloody post I made (the second of that thread) I stated "THey like you to have variety...but they will want you to have something more concrete and traditional as well"

ARGH it's so annoying how everyone is an ignorant fool!

If you look at the situation from the outset, whatever you have stated, and it was blatently obvious to anyone except people, is irrelevent. People hate those who know the truth. That's why Capunicus (hope I spelled his name right) got burnt. Social environment may have changed since those days of Capunicus, but, what people feel about those people who appears to know more and to be "better" than themselves, hasn't changed that much.

Maybe I'm holding the wrong end of the stick here...

Now I feel lucky that I didn't go on the college crawl with you.

Path is HIGHLY recommended. Loving it. Very complicated but v v interesting. CDB is OK, neuro crap at the mo but that's cos we're doing all the Nernst equation Hodgkin-Huxley rubbish...

1A Cells has some really good bits and some really really dull bits. If I remember right you're pretty much going over A level at the moment, so that can be a bit boring. Genetics is coooool (you have to wait til Lent for that but David Summers is a god).

path is fun! i don't know about natsci neuro, but medic neuro is quite fun too! (but that involves quite a bit of background that we built up in 1A, which is why i think the natscis are having a bit of a boring time now... MNS, maybe try reading the first one or two chapters of carpenter's book... it's quite readable, and is basically the basis of most cambs electrophysiology courses. goes for you too crana, if you're doing electrophysiology.)

genetics is fun to think about, but boring as exam material (even when compared to other subjects, boring as normal exam stuff is already... ) David Summers is really cool, and he gives really interesting supervisions. had him 3 (or 4?) times last year - absolutely interesting supes about medical genetics. although he did predict the worst grades for me out of all my supervisors... (i didn't quite put any effort into the work he gave us  )

Because you would set me up and redicule me :frown: (Personality analysis from what you said about debating)
Help Will to get his two gems back. Some people on the forum have been neg repping him for state the blatently obvious fact that if you only have micky mouse subjects at A'Level, you won't get into Cambridge.

I'm starting a Help the Willa Compaign.

The scars are still there if you want to see them...

Did you manage to lacerate any major vessels such that lots of blood squirted out really far due to the pressure?

ah geee thanks.
You're right about people jumping on others for stating the blleding obvious. It's like how if I said "Modern art is **** in comparison to traditional art...and modern artists have inferior skills"....in a PC world, I will be slaughtered for saying that...even though it's the bloody truth

No. All the knives we had were too blunt to be any good. And my dad didn't have razers either. He used to use electrical shaver, which was no good.

In your opinion. I don't think we can hold Tracy Emin up as a model of modern art, I think there's just as much skill in a Georges Braques piece as in a Canaletto scene.
