I do have some rather odd conversations with them from time to time though, like explaining what macaroni was and about whether white people ate houmous.

A.

I had to explain to the guy on the checkout what vegetable i had purchased as he had no idea what it was.

it was the amazing, exotic, and mysterious............turnip.

i love "do white people eat houmous". For a start - IT'S FROM GREECE?!

I think it's Lebanese/middle east actually, the tubs just brand it as 'greek style' I don't think it originated there at all. I had some fresh stuff in Istanbul, but much prefered the sainsburys stuff, I'm so uncultured :p:.

Turnip, hehe.

Do you need to switch it from finding the fast trains to finding the cheapest (if this is thetrainline).?

there's a huge crossover between middle eastern and greek food, so even if it originated in the middle east it's been eaten in greece for hella time.

i think i have broken the will of the trainline machine. i have forced it to find me journeys it wants me to think don't exist. A HA HA HA HA!

That's exactly what I need to do. But I can't see where / how I do this..? any help?

I am accustomed to Qjump.

the site only says

Question
Why doesn't the site show me the cheapest fares?

Answer
You may not have been shown the cheapest fares for a number of reasons:

1. The cheapest fares may be offered as a promotion. Promotional fares may only be available from selected outlets or agents and we may not be able to sell these.

2. The site searches for the five fastest trains in each direction, and any slower direct trains. The times, dates or routes you have specified may not have any very cheap fares available. You could select other dates, times and routes to see if cheaper fares are available.

so I don't think they actually have an option to switch from fastest to cheapest. Now I know what trains i want tho i will prolly get it from the station. I have a £5 voucher i want to use anyway.

Oh, sorry, I might have been thinking about qjump! I know one of them offers you the choice.

yeah, Qjump used to.. but now it's just the trainline in a different guise and doesn't seem to offer you that option any more. bloody thing.

I seem to remember Qjump also had an option to restrict it to one operator, which seems to have gone.

Even when I put in "via Peterborough" it just comes up with Ely ones (which are the ones I don't want - I need to use two Central services, which means changing at peterboro)

its still nice and light here. my bedroom now includes most of our old bathroom, so now I have the window in the bathroom that used to be that weirdy glass you cant see through proprerly as proper glass and I can see through it from my desk. All you can see when youre sitting down is next doors roof , the sky and some trees, but i get some pretty sky views
Can I just encourage you all to watch jerry springer the opera on TV tonight - it's very funny and well done and certainly worth watching.

Wow... look at these two go!! Man, I never thought train tickets buying can be this exciting.
Alaric, I want to know whether this is a good buy or not ASAP. The sale price according to the site is going to end in 2 days.

No intention of doing so - by all accounts I've heard it's not even a very good musical, just lots of swearing.

Nah, what you want is: http://www.apple.com/ibook/

12" iBook with education discount is £615 which gives you a bit of leighway to think of upgrading its memory (OS X is much nicer with more memory).
14" iBook is £782, a bit dearer.

I don't think there's anything you'll do in compsci that'll require something more than an iBook. I also don't know anyone who's regretted buying a powerbook/ibook, it's got enough unix underpinnings that you can do anything you like from the unix world and it's a usable and supported pretty GUI on top. Sod playing games though. A 1.25GHz G4 should outperform the x86 chip at 1.4 though.

To answer your question in a more direct fashion, I don't really know, I'm miles out of touch with a lot of x86 hardware stuff these days. I took a cursory glance at ebuyer and they had a few at a lower price there with a similar spec, so you should take a look around first for sure.

Go for the ibook
