Cambridge Chat (previously New Cambridge Students Entry 2004)

lol i'll ask him to have a look!

weather? what weather? oh, you mean that little breeze we had on the reach? wasn't too bad with a big beefy 8+ full of senior rowers and 1 or 2 monstrous novices :aetsch:

i see you are turning not just into a hardcore boatie, blisters, boatie camp and all, but also into a gym monkey! and there are... less dodgy :hahaha: ways to stretch your hamstrings, such as sitting with your legs stretched out in front of you and touching your toes.

quite difficult to hurt your lats, given their size and action. are you *sure* you're not just suffering from soreness? :p: can happen a *lot* to novices. famous boatie novice quote: "i just discovered a muscle i never knew i had, and it hurts."

Yeah, slightly harder in a girls' boat, especially a little diddy IV, when only one of us had ever rowed in a IV before! On Wednesday we raced the boys down the reach, just to make us get through it

I'm not a gym monkey, I went once in the holidays and hurt myself, so avoided it. I can't imagine why I'd know muscle names otherwise  And I don't know which muscles it is, probably not lat dorsi actually as it's deeper, under my shoulderblade. I think I'm twisting wrongly at some point and it's causing issues, I'm not really sure what it is though. As for the stretching, I couldn't agree more (if there's one thing I do know, it's how to stretch leg muscles, having spent 2 years training with some fairly elite gymnasts  ) - that one is not especially effective unless you have someone else pushing your leg back for you, but I'm not in charge of these things

Wow, boatie talk vs maths talk, aren't we an exciting bunch!

i know i don't remember muscle names  was reading through the examiner's report for our essays from last year on the anatomy website out of curiosity and interest, and saw our MCQ paper (again! ) - tried doing a few questions, realized i'd get something like 20% now....

but isn't there only 1 muscle under the shoulderblade? 2 maybe? (subscapularis and s. ant? ooh, i still remember something  )

you're not supposed to be twisting all that much anyway, i estimate about 30 degrees at the catch, and facing straight ahead the rest of the time. 30 degrees should be easy!

and what's wrong with boatie chat? more than a thousand people are involved in may bumps every year - they can't all be boring gits :p:

I know, but it still feels antisocial and I'm doing everything I can at the moment to NOT alienate my non-boatie friends, though I suppose it's ok on here. After all, I look at all that lot's Maths problems with one great big blank expression

I remember lots of muscle names usually, but I just can't quite relate this one. Bizarrely, the pain is mostly on my right side, which is surely wrong if I'm rowing strokeside! I can't work it out, myself, and the coach is too big and scary for me too ask

Are we still on for formal next weekend?

I look at them and think I can do them, then look again and realise I've forgotten how to. I'm so glad in a way, and disappointed in another.

ok here's another one:

what is a suitable subsitution in the DE:

(lny - x)dy/dx - ylny = 0?

Read the bloody hint Willa.
Right, Me is back in Cam. Spent the last 3 hours unpacking and now I am utterly exhausted. And I still got to go to the bury's to buy bread for tomorrow morning. This is utter pain.

What's this Tick thing and Ticki sessions...? They sound rather bizarre and interesting! Hehe I can dream about Cambridge without the work, so that's one good thing about being rejected

Ticki sessions? There something you're not telling us, Vix?

probably a cramp in your lats - novices tend to pull harder with the inside hand rather than equal pressure on both. given the amount of work you do when rowing, don't be surprised when even a muscle as large as the lats cramp up. are you *sure* it's not a pain on the lateral side of your hips? coz i occasionally get hip abductor muscle cramps, particularly if i didn't warm up properly (i.e. no butt stretch  ).

funny, was about to send you an email asking your about formal. how's the clare side coming along? apparently christ's have already managed to secure 11 of 14, and 1 more likely.

No, it's definitely under my shoulder. We shall see how it feels after a few days rest (no outings till Monday at least). Waiting to find out what boat I'm in... Meanwhile something interesting is happening to my blisters, there's a small white circle appeared in the middle of two of them, surrounded by a slightly darker ring. No idea what that's about.

I have no idea about our formal tbh, haven't heard from many people but only a few of us are back. If you like I can send out an e-mail asking for definite numbers. Are the vets invited too, I can't remember?

Oh god, too much work, not enough time. I'm so bad at this :frown:

Hey, I've just got up and managed to get to the lab. This is not being the epitome of a workaholic that I need to be to get through the next 6 months. This is pain.

I've just spent 4 hours having girly chats with all my lovely medic friends who are all now returned  Caught up on some boatie news, plus lots and lots of other gossip, all good. No progress on Path essays though. :frown:

Back in town. PC not connecting. Tired. Essay? Urgh.
