I guess having your fingers measuring the radial pulse could artificially lower the systolic pressure, but I reckon you would probably have a similar pressure with the stethoscope? (Auscultation can lead to artificially low diastolic measurements because the stethoscope can compress the artery a bit which increases turbulence & prologs Korotkoff sounds) so I'm not sure that's it.
