Oh oops. Didn't know that. Does that make my friend's bro a scholar then? *needs to check out meaning of scholar I've forgotten*
Willa

Probably money to buy books. I wouldn't know, I'm not nor will I ever be one
I got a 150 pounds cheque from Pembroke... I think it says something about another 150 pounds going towards my rent or something...

Unfortunately, Pembroke doesn't do scholar's dinners until 2nd year. (at least that's what I've heard)
At Oxford you get the non-stupid-looking gown I think. Is there not a different gown?

Interestingly - a few of my friends are going to Oxford (Merton and Magdelen) and I'm no-doubt going to be invited to a formal or two of theirs. One has to wear ones current gown to the formal hall, and thus I'd have to wear Bristol's Undergrad gown. Fortunately Bristol uses the Oxford-pattern gown for undergrads (and a Cantab hood), so I can just borrow one of his mates' gowns.

yeah i've heard of the oxford scholar's gown, which i think looks just like a cambridge undergrad gown. But I dunno if there's a cambridge scholar's gown
Oxford is a bit... gay about formals... Lincoln apparently only allow 2 guests. I can take 9 guests to Pembroke, so long as they pay up.

If you get distinction in your first year exam, then you are allowed to wear the Scholar's Gown. Which is longer than the usual undergrad gown.
Cambridge Scholar > Cambridge normal => Oxford scholar > Oxford commoner :p:

PhD students wear them... at least that's what my supervisor told me. It's longer than what we got... it goes all the way to your heel. Very nice indeed...

So given that I apparently missed by the narrowest margins being a Cambridge Normal... I'm better than the Oxford Commoner mates that I have!

Wuckid.

i thought those were the BA status gowns (Or MA?).

Anyhows, I dont think I can afford another gown even if there is one....If I feel like exploiting my new rights I'll errrrr Duct Tape a Tea towel to the bottom or something

Make sure to dye the tea (patch) towel to the required colour.

I'll probably buy one if I carry to do phd. But... that's not very likely since I am finding myself not likeing my subject as much as I though I would... emmmm
I am going back to my sixth form college today... probably won't say anything since people are obviously not interested in Computer Science. Anyone else going back to their old colleges to scare the kiddies shitless?
I wanna!

isn't that just a BA gown?!
amateurish
isn't that just a BA gown?!

Probably. I don't know. He called it either a scholar's gown, or a graduate gown. I'm not sure.

Can I point out that just reads as saying the superiority of cam scholars to commoners implies a similar relationship exists in Oxford?

it depends whether you interpret => as an arrow or as the greater than or equals sign (which i know is often typed as >= ... is there a correct way to do it?)

Dude, what is the equal sign doing there in the first place?
