That's the problem, there is none of these properties for JButton. All the buttons should just be lined up in the middle of the JPanel, by default. And mine aren't doing it! GRRRRR! I seriously don't want to go into useing coordinates explicitly.
Surely where the buttons are is set by the layout type of the JPanel (BorderLayout, GridBagLayout etc) rather than any property on the actual buttons. It's also nicer in some respects to do it that way around rather than attaching the layout to each button instance, you could spawn a new window with the same buttons in a different arrangement if you want (like undocking a control panel (although there is a primitive for that anyway, that's how it could be built)).

well i had to put up with a crappy job for a year and a half earning less than half what I earn now....so I think it's fair I finally had a lucky break. I dunno how lucky I will be at finding this kind of work come next summer though!

Find one of those internet terminals at Heathrow. Might be expensive though. Alternatively, get yourself a good book or buy a newspaper and read it (you know, non-digitalized information ).

does heathrow have wireless? Or plug socket even. My battery would last only 90 minutes if I do those thing suggested. I might not take my laptop though. might take "the pornographer's poem" with me if I find it a good read tonight... or just take a C++ book or something.

Willa, you were right about the setAlignmentX thing. I thought you had to set alignment for the panel which the button is attached to. But no, you do button.setAlignmentX, and that'll like up your button. Just saw an example on sun earlier. Just thought you would like to know. Thanks for the help.
