As a parent with two children overlapping uni for 2016/17 we've completed the household income info re maintenance loans.

They've both received confirmation that they'd be receiving reduced maintenance loans, but I wondered why the amounts were different, despite being linked to exactly the same information re household income?

Is it anything to do with locations & different living costs? - my son is receiving around £500 less than my daughter.

You get a different amount if you live at home or attend uni in London. There's also the long course loan if your course is more than 30 weeks long.

Thanks for swift response Tiger Rag but unfortunately neither is this case in this instance !
Both will be studying on the opposite site of the country from us, & neither will be in London. Both are doing 30 week courses (assuming that is the bog standard uni academic year)Just seemed a little strange that one would get more than the other based on the same income data - could it be because son will be in his 4th year, so entitled to less?

Yes, final year students get a little bit less loan than they did in previous years.
