so my left arm is covered in raised, white scars from when i self harmed back when i was 14. I'm now 20 and although they don't bother me too much anymore i still wish they weren't there as they are pretty obvious and it puts me off going on holiday and getting my arms out in the summer. I'd really love to get something done about this and whilst i was on holiday i was thinking of either going to my doctor and seeing what can be done to remove them or getting a tattoo. I'd love to get a tattoo i'm just worried that it won't really cover the scars as they are raised. Has anyone had any experience getting scars tattooed over or getting them removed?? Not sure where to start, thanks

I have a huge scar on the back of my neck from where I had an operation last year. I'm really self conscious about it; I won't put my hair up or anything because even after a year it is still healing. I was thinking about having a tattoo there when I'm older, but I've decided against that now. Anyway, when I went to have my stitches removed, the nurse recommended something called Bio Oil, which you can buy literally anywhere (I've even seen it in Primark!). It is, according to Boots.com "A unique blend of natural plant oils and vitamins, Bio-Oil is a multiple use product that has been clinically proven to help with scars, stretch marks, dehydrated skin, uneven skin tone and ageing skin". Honestly this stuff is a godsend. I haven't been brilliant at using it (I constantly forget to put it on, plus my scar is in a really weird spot), but my scar has transitioned from an angry red to a pink just a few shades darker than my natural skin shade.

I know your scars are a few years older, however the Bio Oil is great for older scars too; it does say it will never remove them, but it can help them heal up and almost disappear. I know you wanted information on getting scars covered with tattoos or getting the removed - I know someone who had one removed and she told me it was quite painful, and I personally wouldn't tattoo mine knowing how fragile the skin around my scar is and the scar itself. I guess it is personal preference, but in all honestly I would try the Bio Oil and see if it makes a difference

I've used Bio Oil for stretch marks and it's faded them pretty nicely My friend (who had a spinal fusion at the end of last year) has been advised by the doctors to use it on the scar on her back as well, so it sounds like a fairly universal thing.

As for tattoos, you should check this out. There's a lot of people in the comments wondering the same thing.
