    In the beginning, the Earth's crust was molten and there were a lot of volcanoes which gave out lots of gases

    -Firstly, the Earth cooled, which caused the Earth's crust to be developed. The crust reduced volcanic activity.
    -This led to the formation of continents which formed the super-continent Pangaea.
    -Due to cooling, the water vapour from the volcanoes condensed, which formed oceans.
    - Carbon dioxide(which was released from volcanoes) decreased, as the carbon dioxide was dissolved in the oceans, and plants used the carbon dioxide for photosynthesis. Carbon dioxide was also locked up in sedimentary rocks.
    - Plants produce oxygen in photosynthesis. The oxygen produced the ozone layer which blocks harmful rays from the sun. Complex organisms could now develop.
