I can't Decide on what course at which uni ( Open Uni vs Birbeck)

Good Day all,

I am torn between two computing courses... My career goals is to one day become a cyber security specialist, network engineer or software engineer (I understand that they vary).

the two courses:

Birbeck BSc Computing : http://www.bbk.ac.uk/study/2016/undergraduate/programmes/UUBSCOMP_C/

Open Uni BSc Computing & IT: http://www.open.ac.uk/courses/qualifications/q62

Which in terms is better, curriculum wise?
Would it be better to do distance or even classes?

Any help would be great.

Thanks,

Hi

I've asked for this to be moved into the Computer Science and IT university courses forum (this forum - confusingly called Computer Science and ICT) is for study help (so help with homework/coursework/problems).

The right course is very difficult for someone to decide for you - things like whether distance learning or learning in meat-space are very personal and it's up to you to figure out which would suit you best.

I'd suggest you try a few freebee online courses: https://www.futurelearn.com/courses/categories/science-maths-and-technology has courses from OU. And see how you get on with learning that way.

Also have a look around and chat with people in the Open University and Mature Students forums (Birkbeck doesn't have it's own forum so the mature forum is probably the best place to find fellow applicants and students).

It's also worth having a look in the careers IT and technology forum - that's the best place to get careers advice that might help you narrow down what you want to do long term and which of these courses are best suited for that. The careers forums tend to attract people working in that particular industry.
