Rugby --- avg. sprint times for backs

What does everyone think are the average 100m times for fly half, centres, wings, etc? I know it's hard to guess an average but roughly.. And obviously it's not just about 100m times, but acceleration etc.

Just want to guage how fast people reckon backs in each position need to be to play at a fairly decent level i.e county and above.

100m Times, the fastest pros cant probally break 11 seconds, a fair few may be able to run 10.x
And i dont mean any of that hand timing crap by your teachers at district trials ect...Electric or stfu :smile:

well im a winger/fullback/center lol and my fastest recorded time is 12.2seconds for 100m thats nothing special tbh but im a lot faster over 30/40 meters which is what really sounts for rugby as you never run the whole length of the pitch and even that is only 80 meters.

I play centre at mens level, and I would say my sprint time is fairly poor over 100 metres, but reasonable acceleration when combined with my size over 10-20 metres is ok which is what you want at centre I think.

I'm a winger but also ex-county sprinter and my fastest was 11.43 about 6 months ago.

Admittedly, to play county level you at wing you need probably sub 12, but it's not too much of a factor if you're slightly slower.
Centres need more 10-30 metre acceleration but still maybe sub 13.5 to be effective.
I knew a guy at my old school who ran consistant 10.7x and played fly half, so it's probably all relative on the opposition anyway.

Yeah i agree with the above people, for 10,12,13 acceleration is probobly a better characteristic to have. I've played Centre/Wing at mens level, and a few years ago at county, and i'm not the fastest guy in the world but i can accellerate fast and im powerful :smile:

I wouldent get hung up on times and such, but obviously to have pace on the wings is vital!

i play wing, fullback and flanker at senior level and oddly my acceleration isnt too impressive but i have run the hundred in 11.9.
i think its more important to know the lines to run and having the skill to beat a your opposite.
