Hi I'm no expert obviously but I think what you're describing is common-place anywhere? If I have predicted A-levels which on paper were good enough to get me an offer but then I don't meet the offer then understandably I don't go to university. And I think the caveat for the US system is you either choose abroad, or the UK in which case the idea still applies in a way - if you get an offer but don't meet it understandably you won't go anywhere (the location is almost a abstract construct, but the system is the same).

If you are really that scared of failing AP, then don't apply until you have some scores in hand. But it seems overkill really. You should be able to pass AP exams just like us Brits should be able to pass A-levels; a failure to do either is a justified reason to not go to university. So in other words, I'm sure you're capable of getting your predicted grades, so "gamble" (but you're not really because you're capable) on those predicted grades.

Hi @airbmx - I agree that this is common, and that as you have been predicted those grades so are clearly capable. I would try not to stress about it and to work your hardest, taking things one step at a time. Have you chosen an insurance choice with lower grades than Oxford?

I'm afraid I do not know enough about international applications. What do you mean when you say you won't be able to go to either Oxford or the U.S. if you don't meet your predictions?

Hello, I'm an international student applying from the U.S.. Similar to A-Levels the testing system used in the U.S. is known as the AP system. I inputed my predicted grades into my UCAS application however I won't be able to receive my scores until July 2018. Unfortunately U.S uni's requires students to send their confirmations for attendance around May 2018. If I receive a conditional offer from Oxford, but am not able to meet my one or 2 of my predicted grades I wont be able to go to uni in either the U.S. or Oxford. Is there any method around this problem? Thanks! :frown:

The way around the problem is to have an insurance choice that has a lower entry requirement which you could reasonably be expected to achieve and would be happy going to. If you fail to make your Oxford offer (hypothetical at this point), you could go to your insurance choice OR take a gap year and apply again to different US universities.

Hi! On a pessimistic note do you get notified if you don’t receive an interview, or only if you do?

Hi Emily,

All decisions (whether you receive an invitation to interview or not) will be sent via email first, and this will be followed up with a formal letter.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you!

Fear not! Our Admissions Officer works from Monday-Friday, so in terms of emails specifically, no, these wouldn't go out on a weekend - so be sure to do something enjoyable

Oxford makes no distinction between different examination boards for either A-levels or GCSEs. Neither do we distinguish between GCSEs and IGCSEs.

We have no particular GCSE requirement, and would simply expect a successful candidate, whatever board has certified their GCSEs, to be performing in the top of their school cohort - note that we would contextualise, and take mitigating circumstances very seriously.

Hi I sat the British physics Olympiad a few days ago but the results aren't due back to around the time of any potential interviews. As I am applying for physics, if I were to score highly, would it be worth letting my college know?

Not a question but noticed this gem of a phrase: 'Music at LMH is an excellent counterpoint to academic study' (from the website)

+10 for pun usage

Hey there, and welcome to the official Lady Margaret Hall (LMH) 'Ask us anything' thread.

I’m Marrium, the Outreach Officer at LMH (weird job title right? You can read more about it and me here). LMH is one of the 38 independent colleges of the University of Oxford, and it’s my job to encourage students to think about making an application.

So if you'd like to find out more about LMH (here's one way to do that) and what it might be like to study here, please do use this thread, or send me a pm and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

Hope to hear from you soon!

Any idea when LMH will be giving out Law interviews? I'm an international student and want to book my flights and make the appropriate arrangements :frown:

Hello @whatfuture @digg @99bio

I'm so sorry but I can't give you a defintiive answer here as it is down to tutors - in any case you will know at least a week in advance of your interview.

thanks. The PPE interviews are starting on Monday 3 December. Presumably admissions are not going to send out decisions over the weekend
which means that any decision for PPE would need to be by end of Friday if we are going to have at least a week.

Just seen on the oxford official interview forum that someone has been invited to interview for PPE at LMH. They applied to Magdalen and have been bumped to LMH. Apparently Magdalen told them. Is LMH going to let candidates who applied directly to them know about interview or rejection today as well?
