Can I ask for a rough work sheet during exam?

Yes. However, hand it in, it can do you no harm and could do you some good. That is why working with a single crossing out line is a good idea. Working with comprehensive scrubbing out is just annoying as the marker has to try and see if there are any marks there.

    Thanks!
So I should do my working on the rough work sheet and cross it out with a single line?

What I'd normally do is work out with a pencil applying very little force, so I can rub it out easily. IMO doesn't waste any time, might be different for you
