why oxford for engineering?

hi. i haven't yet made up my mind about which uni to choose but am leaning more to oxford as i think that i have a better chance of getting in there instead of cambridge.

i am keen on doing engineering and the reasons for doing engineering are all in my head

HOWEVER, my careerrs tutor who out of the blue asked me in interview style ' why oxford' totally blew my mind!

i have until thursday to KNOW this as well as what college i wanna go to. can someobody please help out???

*HINT*

He said that when asked why oxford i have to talk about shit like wat doctors are researching and shit.

I BEG YOU GUYS.

Why do you have to know by Thursday?
And what kind of college do you want to go to?

Well, there must be some reason why you would prefer to go to Oxford as opposed to the dozens of other universities that offer Engineering. We can't tell you the reason, just try to clarify your own thoughts and learn more about the Oxford Engineering course. But make sure your reasons don't appear shallow.

Because Oxford is pretty handy at it?

I had exactly the same problem, and spent the whole way down on the train fretting about what to say - which basically came down to flexible course structure, reputation, job prospects etc - but in the end the interview didn't ask anything of this nature and was all maths & physics questions.

i think you mum needs to understand that there are still good unis other than those 4.....

You dont need to have a reason to say why u want to apply somewhere. The course they offer is normally the main reason someone applies....

Well, speaking as a mother of students/potential students I think somebody needs to sit yours down and explain a few things to her.

But what makes you think Cambridge "isn't a fun place to be at"?

I don't think "why oxford" questions are that common anymore, I wouldn't put much thought to it.

A few tutors still try it... After applying to Queen's to do law, I was sent off to Catz on the last day for another interview. Started something like this...
interview

Interviewer: So, why St Catz?

Me: I don't know. I didn't apply here. I've been sent by the pooling system.

Interviewer: Good! First test passed. Last guy we had in here talked for over a minute about 'why Catz'. My follow-up question was 'So why did you apply to Magdalen?'

Ouchie!
That must be nasty.
I don't know how honest I'd be if I was pooled .

lol my pooled interview went a little something like this

Interviewer: so are you enjoying your stay at oxford?

me: yeah

Interviewer: so we will get straight on to the maths... what is the last digit of 2^1000

I've always wondered - do you get pen and paper for Maths interviews?

Edit: Is it 6?

My thoughts too... is it not a 2,4,8,6,2,4,8,6 etc sequence?

I thought it was 1, but that probably isn't right .
