He's the "prince of the ranch" because though he doesn't own the farm, he has a special sort of attitude where everyone justs respects him. He's like a God who doesn't judge people and is a bit omniscient. For example, when George told Slim about Lennie pulling the red dress of the girl, he says, "You're not going to tell anyone are you...course you're not". Also, people seem to think that he is always right, "Slim's word was law".

Slim is like the God of the ranch, he even decided fate just like God, for example, Slim was the one who had the last say in whether Candy's old dog would be shot. Also at the end of the novel, when curleys wife was found, it was not announced that she was dead until Slim actually said it. This implies that his authority extends out if just his working life, he is respected by everyone, even Curly doesnt mess with him.. Mainly because of the contrast between Slims and the other characters personalities, he is good and humble whereas others are portrayed at one time or another, as being vain or selfish.

I hope this helps you in someway ☺️
